Dino Risi was born:

December 23, 1917. Dino Risi was born in Milan .

Education level:

Though he never practiced it, he took medicine as a course of study at the university and specialized in psychiatry.

He was a friend to both Luigi Comencini and Alberto Lattuada, with whom he cooperated, alongside being a journalist for various magazines.

During the Second World War, Italy became his home due to exile in Switzerland where he went and even attended some directing courses by Jacques Feyder at the University of Geneva.

He returned to Italy after the Second World War with specialization in documentaries and shot several shorts .

Working phase:

His feature film debut was “Vacanze col gangster” (1952) then “Vialle della speranza” followed by “Paradiso per quattro ore” – an episode from “L'amore in città”, which also featured Fellini , Antonioni , Lizzani , Maselli and Zavattini.

“Poveri ma belli” (1956) is his first success while the second film from this series -“Sabella” earned him Golden Shell at San Sebastian Film Festival .

He made his two best films during sixties: " Via difícil " (1961) and " L'escapade " (1963) wherein Vittorio Gassman played leading roles . And since then until seventies there were more films featuring darker irony such as “Scent of a Woman”.

Risi is seen as one of the greatest exponents of Italian comedy. His final movie titled ‘ I miei mostri ’ premiered on 2005; whereas during his entire career received Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival back in 2002.
